2024 Olympics: Unforgettable lessons from the world's greatest athletes on resilience, a winning mindset, and mental wellness
I remember watching the Olympics with my mom when i was little and being in awe of amazing athletes like Dominique Dawes, Kristi Yamaguchi, Shannon Miller (Oklahoma greatness), and Dominique Moceanu.
I hadn't watched the Olympics in a long time but I have been more invested this year and my inner child is so excited to witness it in action!
I wanted to share of the most beautiful stories that have been inspiring me from the 2024 Olympics in Paris and even the trials leading up to the Olympics.
Be Resilient like Sha'Carri Richardson

I felt so bad for Sha'Carri last go round. To many it seemed like it was all over and she had lost her chance. That made me root for her even more.
Sha'Carri said yall aint seen nothin yet! She has come back with a boldness, a fierceness that has literally taken her to the finish line! You can hear the difference in her talk and her walk. She could have accepted the negative comments made about her and believed that it was over for her, that on one would want to work with her but my girl came back and was on the cover of VOGUE!
Being resilient means even with the battle scars, even with the barriers, even when things don't go the way you planned you shake that shit off and keep going. Now, of course that doesn't mean ignore the feelings we experience but after making space for those feelings we get up, dust ourselves off, and keep going like we belong here because we do!
2. Prioritize Mental Wellness like Simone Biles

Simone has overcome so much since she has been in the spotlight. I love watching Sha'Carri and Simone and seeing that they really did their WORK on themselves by the way they have come out to shine.
Simone has stood in who she is, she has shut down haters, and stood with grace! Simone reminded us how importan it is to take care of ourselves. When she announced that she was goign to take a break they tried to call her weak but she showed that taking care of yourself is STRENGTH not weakness.
I can remember being burned out at a point after I started Notes by Khia and talking to someone who was a mentor at the time basically told me I shouldn't stop because it would be harder to come back. Simone is a key example that sometimes we do need to take a break and regup so that we can come back refreshed, rested, and even stronger.
3. Have Confidence like Noah Lyles

I have really become a fan of Noah. Noah is one cocky motha fucka! And I love it! I love it even more when he proves himself.
Noah has that winning mindset that I love! In order to be a winner you have to know for yourself that you are a winner and not be afraid to declare that outloud when others may not think the same. I was watching the documenteary, Sprint, on Netflix and they showed that he put his goal time on his story and people were so up in arms about HIS goal! Ain't that crazy?! He did that in faith, manifesting what he wanted and it was about him, nobody else and that is the winning mindset that will take you to the top.
Confidence is intimidating to a lot of peope but you have to believe in yourself enough to drown out everyone else who wants to see you fail, who doubt you, who project their own fears onto you. You have to KNOW for a fact that you ARE the greatest so that you can show up as such!
4. Find your tribe like Jordan Chiles

Hearing about Simone reaching out to Jordan Chiles to come train with her team made me so happy for a few reasons. for one, it was a reminder that sometimes who you had for a team previously is sometimes only there for a season and to get to your next level your team may have to change. You may be looking at your current circle or maybe you had a circle before but that season ended - there are more people in the world! More people to suport you. More people to help you get to the next level just keep going so they can find you!
You have not met all the people who are going to love you yet!
Jordan could have given up but she was connected with someone who could help her get to the next level. This is Black Girl Magic! Supporting one another, not competing against one another but both thriving in their own right and cheering each other on because when one of us wins we all win!
